Biology of infections, clinical research, systems neurosciences plus animal health and feed quality - learn more about the TiHo!

The clinic for cattle and the institutes for anatomy and physiology are on the University of Veterinary Medicine campus on Bischofsholer Damm.

The University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Foundation (Stiftung Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover - TiHo) represents long-standing competence in veterinary medicine. It was founded in 1778 as the Royal School of Equine Medicine, and is the only veterinary education establishment in Germany to have preserved its independent status.

Six clinics, 19 institutes, three faculties

The TiHo has been a foundation university since 2003; the transformation into a public foundation has brought to it a new autonomy and increased flexibility. Six clinics, eighteen institutes, three faculties and one pre-institute are situated at two locations in Hannover. The TiHo also maintains two external sites, in Ruthe to the south of Hannover and in Bakum near Vechta.

Numerous research focuses

About 2,400 students of veterinary medicine, including doctoral candidates and PhD students, are currently enrolled at the foundation university, while biology students are educated in cooperation with Leibniz University Hannover and Hannover Medical School. Teaching and research at TiHo is always dedicated to the welfare of humans and animals. The main areas of research are biology of infections, clinical research, systems neurosciences, and animal health and feed quality.

Emphasis on veterinary services

Along with research and teaching, the TiHo provides a wide range of veterinary services as one of its main tasks, with particular emphasis on clinical treatment in the six TiHo clinics, complemented by a range of pathological, biochemical, toxicological and laboratory diagnostic investigations offered by different TiHo facilities.
