The diagonal lift in the town hall's dome is unique in the world.
From the beginning of the season, visitors can drive up to the roof of Hannover's New Town Hall in a high arc and marvel at the spectacular view of the city and far beyond from the platform at a height of 90 metres.
Spectacular View
The winding ride with the arched elevator first leads vertically upwards. Then the lift changes direction, tilts horizontally by about eight meters (to follow the curved dome of the town hall) and continues its journey at an angle of 17 degrees. A window in the roof of the cabin offers the possibility to follow every meter of this impressive ride. For the special thrill, there is another window in the floor that becomes transparent at the touch of a button. When you arrive at a lofty height, the capital of Lower Saxony is truly at your feet: the Maschsee shimmers very close by, to the left of which the forests of the Eilenriede extend over several districts of Hanover. In good weather, the view even reaches the hills of the Deister in the west and the Harz Mountains in the east.

The interior of the over one hundred year old town hall is also worth seeing. In the imposing main hall, for example, there are four city models showing Hanover in the course of time from the Middle Ages through the years before and immediately after the Second World War to the present day. The restaurant "Der Gartensaal" in the southern wing of the New Town Hall offers culinary specialities from Hanover. A popular photo motif is the view from the large terrace onto the blooming water lilies in the Maschteich and the well-kept Maschpark.
