In the city and the region of Hannover there are 26 consulates in total, of which two are general consulates and 24 honorary consulates. The general and honorary consulates encourage both economic and cultural cooperation between Hannover and their respective countries. They are the contact for queries relating to passports, IDs and other official documents, and also in emergencies of all kinds.
In addition to the official offices in Hannover representing other countries, bi-national societies and associations play an important role. They constitute an economic, cultural and above all social link between Hannover and other cities (and their respective countries) in the world.
